Lectromec Design Co. is a Dulles, Virginia based technology and engineering firm specializing in aircraft wiring testing, wire management services, research and design. Lectromec’s laboratory is equipped to test and analyze electrical systems of various types for a variety of industries. Lectromec’s forté is understanding the electrical and physical properties of wiring insulation and the ill effects of damaged wiring. Lectromec designs specific programs to meet the needs of each customer. “Wire Management” is a broad term, which includes assessing the overall health of wiring systems and circuitry in conjunction with your maintenance personnel. Once the condition of the wiring is known, appropriate and educated maintenance action can be taken by the aircraft operator or customer. A Risk Assessment, which Lectromec can assist with, is also a vital part of managing the health of wiring systems. This is usually conducted after inspection and testing has been completed. Wire Management can include the integration of Lectromec’s proprietary testing services as well as training sessions. Lectromec offers several valuable testing services including; The DelTest™ which detects hidden breaches in wiring insulation, the WIDAS aging test which predicts how much reliable operating life remains in wiring and Wet / Dry Arc Track Testing which measures a wire’s integrity under various electrical load scenarios. Wet / Dry Arc Track Testing allows our engineers to monitor voltage and current signatures under arcing conditions as well as collateral damage, energy dissipation and critical duration patterns. New to our offerings is the Inherent Viscosity test which Lectromec conducts under an agreement with DuPont. The Inherent Viscosity test is a proven laboratory method of determining the condition of wiring insulation. This measurement nicely complements the WIDAS test. Lectromec also provides “Wiring Technology Overviews” which teach maintenance or technical personnel about the properties of wire. Training sessions can include basic Electrical and Chemical Theory, The Do’s and Don’ts of working with wire and a General Overview of how and why wiring can create operational problems. Lectromec can also work with pilots, in combination with your flight department, to convey the technical ramifications resulting from resetting circuit breakers.
