One Year Anniversary The response to WireFacts.com in the first year has been overwhelming and we would like to thank you making WireFacts your source for wire information. Though some of the technology challenges caused long nights for our staff, the site was always up and running. In the coming year, Lectromec will be expanding the scope of the WireFacts system to include wiring systems not used for aerospace purposes, but also the more common commercial wiring systems found. Check back with WireFacts.com throughout the year to see these impressive new changes. WireFacts.com Launched January 8, 2007 With the variety of military specifications, industry trade names, dozens of acronyms, and other naming conventions used to define a particular type of insulation, it can be difficult to determine the insulation of a given wire to say the least. In a case of Mil-spec identification codes, the difference between a /9 wire insulation and a /7 wire insulation can be dramatic, even to the point of completely different materials. In the past when Lectromec personnel would be inspecting aircraft, maintenance personnel and aircraft technicians, though they worked with it daily, would typically be unaware of the type of wires they were handling. Often a type of wire would be associated with specific color insulation. Lectromec has developed a solution for this problem. WireFacts.com has been designed as a single location for information on wire insulation past and present. WireFacts.com was designed from the ground up providing data starting from the simple pros and cons of a particular insulation and going through highly specific chemical composition and inherent properties. The information is displayed in plain English, without the convoluted descriptions that often plague literature in the field. History WireFacts.com has been an internal database used by Lectromec for the last three years and we are still moving much of the information to this site. It grew out of a discussion that we had internally on how we could catalog the different properties of wires that would be useful. After 2 years of slowly adding material to the database, we felt that it was time to place the information where it would be useful to the aerospace community. After studying wires and insulating materials for 22 years, trying to place all of this information into a database is a difficult task, but we are working hard to increase the capabilities. The goal of the WireFacts.com website is to provide a common repository for wire information and related materials. We strive to make this website as factually accurate as possible, and request that if, at any time that any information is incorrect, let us know and we shall seek to fix the problem as soon as possible. Though those of us who work at Lectromec know a lot about wiring and insulation, we freely admit that we do not know everything about wiring. As such, this website is designed to gather information from those who produce, distribute, design, use, and maintain wiring wherever it may be found. Your comments are important to us. To find out more about providing information to be used in this website, follow this link for the details. Future In the coming months we will be adding more data and features to this website and hope that you will contribute your thoughts and knowledge to the site as well.
