Insulation Type: PEI

Trade Names(the following are common tradenames used for PEI insulation)
  • UltemĀ®

Dark Gray = Carbon atoms Light Gray = Hydrogen atoms Blue = Nitrogen atoms Red = Oxygen atoms Yellow lines = Bonds to other monomer units in the polymer Due to the complex structure of this monomer unit, not all atoms and a connection bond are not visible.

Aircraft on which PEI has been used/found
  • CRJ200 (No dates available)

*Note: Some of the older aircraft types of insulation may have replaced by the original wire. The listings of aircraft are not complete, especially with those special uses, e.g., engine areas, electronic boxes, etc.

Advantages: Resists attack by many chemicals Flame retardant Good dimensional stability

Disadvantages: Can support arc tracking when wiring exposed to water

Other Information: Base material is Ultem 1000 When fillers are added the designation is Ultem XXXX This material is a poly etherimide; thus it is related to PMDA-ODA
