Insulation Type: Poly alkene

Example with poly (propylene) – structure I - and poly (4-methyl-pentene-1) – structure II. Note: The CH3 group with poly (propylene) can have three relative orientations-see a polymer text for more details and the page about structural formulas for organic compounds for more general background.

Advantages: Relatively inexpensive Resistant to degradation with exposure to normally expected fluids

Disadvantages: Most poly alkenes have relatively low melting temperatures.

Other Information: When used in aircraft wiring, it appears that poly alkenes are cross- linked-See XL-Poly alkene
